In Alabama, the USW Takes Charge of Training!

USW 351-L, ICD, and BF Goodrich launch new Tuscaloosa training center using Union Built PC equipment
Dr. Ted Hardin is passionate about training. He's the director of the new training center in Tuscaloosa that is part of the Steelworkers' ICD (Institute for Career Development) program. "We knew that computer training would be key to our students' success. So we decided to put together several labs involving that technology." It has worked; the USW351L ICD has record numbers of members from the BF Goodrich plant attending classes.

With a Mark II server from Union Built PC that acts as a firewall, antivirus server, and web/email server, they are keeping out the bad traffic while letting the administrators and instructors do their jobs in a much more efficient manner. The server, like all Union Built servers, has a hard disk backup system that makes recovery nearly instantaneous, and it allows for remote access and support so that the training center doesn't need an on-site tech. Add to the mix the projectors, laptops, and desktops with state of the art technology in every unit, and they're prepared to carry out the mission of training all members who desire it.Ted continued, "We've got everything in place to help our students succeed. The union, the company, and the ICD are all on board to make this a dynamite program. And Union Built PC supplied the technology and experience to bring that part of the program together for us."
